Well, just in case any of you haven’t heard, our new little bundle arrived on November 1!  He is a precious, sweet baby and has already brought so much joy to our lives!  (For the full story behind his name and details about his arrival, visit eric’s blog).  Eric and I are truly privileged and deeply honored to by chosen by God to raise this little future warrior-poet.  Hudson and Harper are beside themselves with glee.  They call him “Baby Dubber” (Harper’s version of “Baby Brother.)  Hudson is constantly asking, “Can Baby Dubber come play in my room?”  Which is really funny, since all the little guy does right now is sleep and eat.  But nevertheless, the kiddos love to be with him and are disappointed anytime they have to go somewhere without him.

I have to admit, it’s been an emotional week.  My joy at welcoming this little life into our family has also been mixed with an ache in my heart over the profound sacrifice his sweet mother made on his behalf.  Bex is truly one of the greatest heroes I’ve ever known.  Not only did she endure all the discomforts of pregnancy, a long labor, a c-section, and a painful recovery in order to bring this precious child into the world, but she then made an incredible personal sacrifice in order to give her son everything she wanted him to have. She followed God’s lead, even though there was deep pain involved.  Walking through all of that with Bex has deeply impacted my life, and I know I’ll never be the same after watching such heroic love in action.  

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. (John 15:13)

May we never forget the kind of love Christ has for us – sacrificially putting aside his own desires in order to give us everything.  May we always remember that this is the very love He has called us to give to others.  Bex, thank you for your remarkable example of this heroic, Christ-like love.  It has changed my life forever.  I pray I will always love this little boy with the same selfless love you have given him.  *
